GREEN PORNO

Isabella Rossellini reenacts the surprisingly kinky and confounding mating rituals of insects and marine life in a series of short films called  called 'Green Porno.' The series began in 2008 and aired on The Sundance Channel. The series is written and directed by the star of the films, Isabella Rossellini. Rossellini wanted to focus on the animals that you wouldn't normally think about their sexual behaviour, or at all, 'I have always loved animals. I am particularly interesting in the diversity in nature.' Surprisingly these animals "have incredible varieties of mating," something we would necessarily consider when thinking about an animal such as a duck, a praying mantis, or a bee. Her goal is to make the films both entertaining and educational. 'writing and directing films, biology became my main source of inspiration.'

The materials Rossellini uses are mainly paper, an easy and versatile material, although i think this works well as it is simple yet effective, keeping the concentration on the subject matter. her final film of her series concentrates on the over fishing of fish and the threat there is to the population of fish. I like this idea, that Rossellini is making her films playful and creative yet sending the educational message through the paper costumes. The videos are humours and entertaining, with a clear message which is what i want to achieve with the film i am making.
