ITS MY ISLAND

Antti Laitinen experiments with the tragicomedy relationship between nature and humans. he creates by a number of semi-compleated tasks, such as THREE STONES, he dug and kept a stone after 3 minuets of digging, 3 hours and 3 days. the unknown unpredictability of his work makes it fun and enjoyable. His piece WALK THE LINE presents a map he created out of his own face being printed onto a map. he then followed this line. the sharpness and direct synopsis about his work are admirable, quick and to the point they clearly work together as piece but stand strong on their own.

SO MANY SCREENS

Alike the work od Issac Juliens PLAYTIME, i love the presentation of Antti Laitinen's 'ITS MY ISLAND' presented at the venice biennale.

PLAYTIME

Issac Juliens PLAYTIME held at the Victoria Miro gallery in Angle was not only satisfyingly acute and focused making it a beautiful to watch, but the idea behind the transition of CAPITAL. http://vimeo.com/85817480

Upstairs hosts a brilliant array of 7 screens, taking it turns to play the film, and at times the same shoot from different angles which was amazing to view. downstairs was another film, a conversatiobetween the artist himself and leading academics such s Stuart Hall and David Harvey.
The presentation of the piece was remarkably interesting to view, which perhaps made the length of the film (one hour) feel like no time at all.

LIGHTING WITH A STAG IN ITS GLARE

The critical unit 4 essay: position another piece from a Tate permanent collection into another collection. My choice way Joseph Beuys, which has been an influence towards my practice as his work demonstrated the relationship between humans and nature, and the intelligence and comfort nature can bring to a damaged society. the mythology within his work, particularly the use of the mythical 'Stag' in his pieces monument to the stag and lighting with a stag in its glare, is something i want to incorporate into my work.

MORNING STROLL

My walk this morning has encouraged me to continue wight the idea of human and natures relationship. I have decided i want to make it a small series of works. Firstly, 'With out you my life would be boring' installation. secondly, a canvas print, 'Rock Classics,' which will be a photo of mine printed onto canvas and drawn a animal skull over the top. rest to be continued

BYE BYE FISHY

I inform you of the sad news that Coco died earlier this morning, maybe due to overfeeding, in any case it was pretty heartbreaking flushing her down the toilet. She will therefore not star in any future films.

STRUCK DUMB

Richard Deacons organic wood and metallic sculptures are currently hosted by the Tate Britain. I was able to take this photo before being asked to put away the camera. the shapes are so much bigger then I imagined, filling the space and making them impossible to ignore.

OREO ST. JAMES

http://www.helenmarten.com

Helen Marten's first exhibition at the Sadie Coles HQ presents an extensive group of sculptures revolving around there concept of the model as a basic means or organisation. The large array of 2D and 3D models take on humanised qualities. The ceramic vessels placed around the centre of the gallery hint at human shapes, their light pinks, blacks and beige representing something similar to skin. The strange positioning of ordinary objects around the suggestive ceramic outlines present an inside to the life and interests of these personified sculptures. I like the bulbously inflated, l voluptuous shapes, as they have a sort of personality without displaying a face or any real features.

I LIKE TO SEE SLUDGE AND MAN MADE WASTE

David Lynch exhibition hosted at the Photographers Gallery in central London played part in showing 90 of his beautify mysterious and eerie photographs shot around Berlin, Łódz, Poland, New York City and New Jersey, USA, between 1980 to 2000. He focuses on industrial ruins, the lost and unused parts of the city, showing the buildings slowly deteriorate and lay waste to nature. How Lynch captures the take over of the natural rather then the destruction of it intrigues me and is what stood out strongly within his work.

WITHOUT YOU MY LIFE WOULD BE BORING

Piece finally finished, this is taken during the exhibition. i stood by it and luckily the fish were absolutely fine and stayed very calm, as well as the water not bursting during the exhibition or over the course of the weekend. The film played throughout on a loop, I've posted the full film which i uploaded onto youtube. I decided the piece was to be called 'Without You my Life Would be Boring,' giving reference to the unnatural parts to the piece being required necessities.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fpjb0f9VwGY
