THE ENCLAVE

I went to visit the Richard Mosse THE ENCLAVE exhibition within the bottom floor of a car park in soho. the first rom was filled with beautifully vibrant photographs from when the artists travelled round Congo. The second room was host to 8 screens, all showing footage of Congo contrasting the bright pink lushes' natural environment with the violent images of dieting and dead soldiers.
This moving exhibition treads into both artistic skill and documentary. I think the colours are so powerful and brilliant, and has made me want to extend the use of colour into my practice. The spilt screen that i tried to achieve in my last assessment proved difficult, but i would love to try and fill a room with 4 projections having a performance or installation int he middle, or have the screens inside the inastllation as smaller projections. the vibrance and engagement of the films, as well as the silence and atmosphere created whilst watching them is overwhelmingly powerful.

OCTICAL

I have stuffed my octopus legs, and am happy with the suckers being left open as they produce a more organic feel for the legs. After a group crit I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with the legs, maybe make loads more of them and create a mass pile of them, or a bundle hanging from the ceiling. I like the look of them placed so the context of the animal is removed and a new image is created.

AMBIDEXTROUS UNIVERSE

Tauba Auerbach's sculptures based on Martin Gardners 'THE NEW AMBIDEXTROUS UNIVERSE,' and formed a collection that hints at a alternate, mirror universe. The collection, especially 'THE NEW ABIDEXTROUS UNIVERSE VI' the symmetrical shapes are playfully and satisfying.

DREAMS THAT STICK

I have made some octopus legs relating to the symmetry to my sculpture, as the legs are identical in some ways yet subtly, which i found really appealing. the connection obviously  to my animal sculptures in the past, yet this one has derived from my dreams and an unconscious state. wanting ti mix both the unconscious and the conscious together i want to form the head out of skin coloured material, yet not to make a face or a head of another animal, yet a form i find has characterises and human qualities, but subtly so, alike KUSAMAs sculptures.

AND AGAIN

i really like the look of it as its an unnatural, forced image to make a symmetrical picture. a face and body of a person is not symmetric and i think the look of it in that sense of it being to perfect is quite appealing.

GIVE ME SYMMETRY

Looking at symmetry, yet not completely obvious but slightly subtle. I walked around an abandoned building that used to belong to the army, destroyed leaving only debris. the image is not completely  symmetrical but its still very satisfying

PICTURES SCANNED IN OF DREAMS

Pictures of my scanned documentation of my dreams immediately after I've woken up.

QUALITY OF DREAMS

my thought process recently for a new piece of work has been difficult, and thus i have been documenting my dreams and seeing subconsciously what comes out of it. i have been trying to write these down straight after i wake up and reread them to see what i remember properly a few hours later. Robilliards paintings from his poetry are influential, and an powerful, interesting way of portraying his work.

KUSAMA TO RESCUE

I love the look of Yayoi Kusama's 'ACCUMULATION' series of soft sculptures, phallic shaped neutral coloured blobs covering clothes and furniture. they obviously have no sign of humanised characteristics, however they appear to me very alive.

SKULL SKULL X2

Blown up the skull to a much larger drawing. I have an idea to create this onto muslin or another fabric screen printed onto a shape, maybe a animal head or something

SKULL ME, SKULL YOU

Skulls on faces drawn with black ink.

SKULL

I have been experimenting with drawings from pheasant skulls i found a while ago, and humanising them slightly with hair.
