PALE FOX

Camille Henrot at the Chisenhale gallery presents PALE FOX. This ambitious new exhibition follows on from the film installation of GROSSE FATIGUE (2013) which was presented at the venice biennale, and which she won the SILVER LION award for most promising young artist. PALE FOX experiments with found objects, drawings, posters, photographs bronze and ceramic sculpture and digital images. It articulates the desire to make sense of the world through objects that surround us, which we are familiar with. The exhibitor unfolds on the viewer in a miss match ares of oddly placed work, sort of set out like the inside of the video GROSSE FATIGUE. The polymorphous aluminium shelf provides structure for the four stages of the individual lifecycle, the evaluation of technology, the four classical element: fire, water, earth and air.

HEADS MAY ROLL

Benedict Drew's HEADS MAY ROLL experiments with sculpture, video and music, showing a response to the use of LCD and electronic technology and sound. The exhibition neatly provokes Drew's critique on contemporary consumers via his fantastical world including fluorescent lights and a mechanical drum playing monkey covered in silly string, in which the word, body and image are exhausted.

BLACK, BLACKER, BLACKEST

Over the period of WIMBLEDON SPACE presenting an festival of performances from the 25th of feb  to the 26th march,  I went and saw Hanae Utamura, performing in reaction to her own video CONSTRUCT,  the performance presents Hanae painting over the top of her film, exploring the endless process of making and unmaking.

YOU TAKE MY BREATH AWAY

The films have all had the shots contrasted and lightened to create a bright and colourful image, removing the natural state even more.

MY RAP NAME.COM

I wanted to incorporate into the video another audio to go along side the music. this second audio is designed to contradict the beautiful music playing, so i wanted to find something that did this tastefully without completely clashing. obviously to me this wouldn't be another type of music, as this just wouldn't work. also adding harsh or 'bad' music wouldn't make the point clear, it would present a clash of audio, and i don't want to show the clash of humans and nature, just the dysfunctional relationship, alike viewing it from a camera. i thought firstly of rap music, angry lyrics, as its mostly just spoken word. then i was listening to rap, and thought of rapper names. i found a 'rap name generator' online, and after playing around with simple names and phrases i decided to put in 'nature' and 'natural,' as the names of the rapper, producing these hilarious names. this gives me the second audio, a recording of me reading allowed these names. the clash of audios will sound subtle and pleasant. the film will show beautiful scenery, and human and nature behaviour, yet viewed from the hand held camera, presenting the disjointed relationship with nature.

TRISTES

Tristes Apprêts, Pâles Flambeaux, By: Jean Philippe Rameau / W, is the song i have chosen to play behind my film. this song i have chosen because its very beautiful, and features in the film 'Marie Antoinette,' by Sophia Coppola. The film focuses on Frances Queen Marie Antoinette, a historical figure whom excessively brought material things which plummeted France into the depression. This attitude and removal from nature is what I'm suggesting within my film.

RULE OF THREE

the films i have been working on follow lead of the influences of the artits using a number of screens, these i am hoping to present projected together. one is a shot of still nature, the left is shots of scenery through a window, and the middle is beautiful music mixed with shots of people and nature but it being disturbed. all suggest the relationship we have with nature is disjointed. the beauty not coming from the scenery, the music over the top overrides this, also suggesting we are always looking for something better, natural is not contentment.

NYMPHOMANIAC

Lars Von Triers nymphomanic has a scene split into three. it shows the scenes disjointed playing a similar shot. this split screen or 3 scenes is something i think looks athletically pleasant. i would like to work with this more during my project.
